Sapurji: Don Maloney is my new hero
Phoenix Coyotes GM Don Maloney has made it clear today that former NHL "agent" David Frost is persona non grata at their training camp or at their AHL affiliate in San Antonio.
...The problem for the Coyotes occurred last week in Napanee, Ont., when Frost asked Justice Geoffrey Griffin to amend his bail conditions to allow him to leave Canada to attend Phoenix's training camp... and Justice Griffin said, yes.
Frost is out on bail while he waits for his Oct. 14th trial date on sexual exploitation charges. He is also facing trial next April in Kingston on fraud charges after he allegedly used a credit card belonging to former OHLer Mike Danton (nee Jefferson) who is currently incarcerated for trying to hire a hitman to kill Frost.
The disgraced former agent was hoping to watch former Kitchener Rangers forward Adam Keefe, the brother of Frost's former client, Sheldon Keefe.
"I can't be strong enough about this, we don't want any part of David Frost. He is not welcome here," Maloney told the Toronto Sun. "This is the first I've heard about this but I can tell you without a doubt, I don't want him here, we don't want him here, he will not be allowed here."
Maloney went on to say, "If young Keefe is in any way associated with Frost, he will not be coming to our camp. He's a player targeted to play in San Antonio. He played there last season and we had no problems with him and had no association with David Frost. We liked Keefe in San Antonio and certainly Frost was nowhere to be found, but we don't want (Frost) at our camp and we don't want him around our San Antonio team, either.
"This is simple really, if Frost is connected to Adam Keefe, we're through with Adam Keefe. When I was in New York, we had Sheldon for a brief time. And I had a little exposure to this man (Frost). I didn't like it. And I don't want anything to do with him now."
Good on the Coyotes, I only wish the OHL had taken that kind of stance back in the late 90s and early 2000s.
In fairness though, it does remind me of a story from Oshawa back in the day when then Generals GM Wayne Daniels and longtime office manager Colleen Corner physically chased Frost out of the old Civic Aud for allegedly entering the building by using someone else's CHL pass.
Every time I hear about David Frost, this song comes to mind:
