Sapurji: The Wild are on fire, like fo real...
The NHL's Minnesota Wild lost almost all of their gear during a truck fire on Friday afternoon, but the team is going to play tonight against the Ottawa Senators.
...Everyone except nine skaters lost all their gear, including both goaltenders -- Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding. As a result, the team had to call up Anton Khudobin from their AHL affiliate in Houston to either start or backup for tonight's game.
"We had a lot of conversations with the league," Wild GM Chuck Fletcher told the St.Paul Pioneer Press. It's more than just tonight. We play Monday; we play Wednesday; we play the 26th. You're talking about a scenario where you have to get guys new equipment real quickly, and you've got to play games. You can't postpone hockey for two weeks so guys can break in their equipment."
They're pretty lucky they're in Ottawa -- they can just head over to the local Canadian Tire and buy some new stuff. I bet they've got great sales on now too.
NOTE: I would pay Canadian Tire money to see someone YouTube Marty Havlat trying on skates at the Canadian Tire.
Seriously, this story is crazy and hopefully the Wild are able to break in their new gear quickly.
