Doyle: Oshawa's de Haan out for the season
Oshawa Generals defenceman Calvin de Haan is out for the season with a shoulder injury, and subsequent surgery.
...The New York Islanders first round pick left Sunday night's game against the Saginaw Spirit with the injury. After being checked out by doctors in New York, it was determined surgery was the best option for his long term health. Recovery is listed as being four-to-six months, with de Haan expected to be ready for the start of training camp this fall. "While this certainly isn’t the best of news for our hockey club, we certainly just wish Calvin all the best," Generals GM/Coach Chris DePiero said in a team release. "It appears as if he’ll be ready for the start of next season and that is some good news."
"This represents a challenge for our team but we’re hoping some of our players will see this as a chance to step up and try to fill the void."
de Haan was a member of Team Canada at the recent World Junior Hockey Championship and scored 24 points in 34 games this season with the Generals. The Islanders used their second pick in the first round, 12th overall, to draft the Carp, ON native at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
