Doyle: OHL All-Stars shoot the lights out
KINGSTON, ON -- The 2010 OHL All-Star Classic is in the books. The top stars in the Ontario Hockey League put their skills on display in a record-breaking game.
...The Eastern Conference continued their recent dominance of the West, picking up a 17-10 victory in the highest scoring game in OHL All-Star history. The previous record of 22 goals was set during the 2007 event in Saginaw, MI. Andrew Agozzino of the Niagara IceDogs scored four goals and finished with five points to be named the East Player of the Game. The four goals for the Niagara captain set an all-star record, beating the previous mark of three goals held by many players. Ottawa teammates Cody Lindsay and Tyler Toffoli, along with Alex Hutchings of Barrie scored five points apiece, including hat tricks by both Lindsay and Hutchings.
Leading the way for the Western Conference was Erie Otters overager Zack Torquato. He also had five points, with three goals and two assists, and was named the Western Conference Player of the Game. AJ Jenks (Plymouth) at Jeremy Morin (Kitchener) chipped in with two goals apiece.
The big guns of the Western Conference were held in-check as Taylor Hall was limited to one point while Tyler Seguin was held pointless.
The final attendance was not announced at the K-Rock Centre but estimates put it between 3,200-3,500.
Eyes on the prize: The OHL All-Star Game is nowhere near as heavily scouted as the Prospects Game. But among those on-hand were multiple members of the Edmonton Oilers staff including Head Scout Stu MacGregor. The Oilers could end up with one of the big three from the OHL in Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin or Cam Fowler. Fans in Edmonton are already calling on the Oilers to get their hands on the rights to Hall.
Pulling double-duty: OHL Referee Joel Washkurak officiated the game, one night after taking part in the alumni game in Kingston. Most of the people who took part in the game reported sore legs shortly afterwards.
