Former Owen Sound Attacker and current QMJHL forward Josh Domingues has been on a quest since last June, trying to raise awareness and money for cancer research....
Originally, his goal was ambitious -- $20,000 -- but now, with only two days left to donate, he's hoping to turn the close to $4,000 he's raised into $5,000.
“If we can pass that $5,000 hurdle that’s a big accomplishment,” says the Gatineau Olympiques winger. “That’s something I’ll always be able to look back on and say, ‘a bunch of people came together and helped make a really big difference.'”
On Friday, Domingues -- who has been growing his hair since June -- and his teammates will shave their heads before Les Olympiques faceoff against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
“I’m told daily by my teammates that (my hair) is awful,” says Domingues with a laugh. “So I’m not doing it for good looks, that’s for sure.”
Domingues has done this without the aid of fancy press releases, or a big media blitz. Most of his donations have come via word of mouth thanks to his "Cut 4a Cure" page on Facebook.
In addition to money hockey players like Steven Stamkos and Francis Wathier are donating autographed items to raffled off at a later date.
I know for a fact there are people with big-time NHL connections reading this blog, so if you'd like to make some phone calls and donate something for Josh to his raffle, I know he'd be thrilled.
