Doyle: Thursday night is done, what do we know in the OHL?
As the OHL regular season ticks down, Thursday night's action decided a little bit more towards the OHL playoffs - but still plenty to figure out.
...The Windsor Spitfires comeback of five unanswered goals against the Plymouth Whalers in a 6-4 victory clinched the top spot in the Western Conference (you only win the Western Conference Title in the postseason). This also means the London Knights will be the number-two seed in the conference, but neither team has their opponent determined. Kitchener is always who they will play as the third team. Erie, Saginaw and Guelph continue to battle it out for the bottom three spots. The Storm beat Sarnia 7-4, putting them one point back of both the Otters and Spirit. Plymouth and Sault Ste. Marie will play in the first round, but home-ice advantage is still up for grabs. The series schedule has been set, just the venue yet to be determined.
Plymouth Whalers vs. Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds
Game 1 Friday, March 19
Game 2 Saturday, March 20
Game 3 Tuesday, March 23
Game 4 Wednesday, March 24
Game 5 Friday, March 26
Game 6 Sunday, March 28
Game 7 Tuesday, March 30
In the Eastern Conference, the Niagara IceDogs are in the playoffs with their single-point in a 2-1 shootout loss against Mississauga. While they know they will be in the postseason, the IceDogs could finish in any of the bottom-four spots. Peterborough's 4-1 win on home ice against Sudbury ensures the Peterborough avoid a first-round meeting with the Barrie Colts. The Petes cannot finish eighth as neither Sudbury nor Oshawa can catch them. None of the first round series have been determined as of yet.
