In response to: Doyle: OHL going back to the Hammer?

hamiltonohl [Member]
It dont matter if its another team or if it's Erie Otters as long as Hamilton gets a OHL team, i'll be happy... I was only 3 when we had our last OHL team and i rather see OHL over NHL and AHL any day

Gens now have 4 OAs. If DePiero cannot trade 1 in next 60 minutes, I suspect that Maggio will be waived.

In response to: Doyle: Lots of wheeling and dealing pre-import draft

An example: In '99 Erie had OA Arvid Rekis and 19 y/o Nikita Alexeev and drafted Ivan Huml. Huml was in training camp with the Otters, but was released after Rekis came back to the Otters. Incidentally, Huml was the 1st overall selection the following season by a WHL team.

No, if the import comes back as OA then they would need to trade or release another import pick as they could not retain the rights to 3. That is my understanding of the rules.

If teams have an OA import, can they still draft two imports in the draft if they have none currently on the roster/protected list?

If the OA import plays, what happens to the one import pick that isn't on the roster? Can the team keep him on the protected list?

Weird situation all the way around. Happy birthday to Brent Sullivan (is he the oldest player in the league this year?) Good luck to all on their new teams.

And why would the trailing ref skate down near the other ref? He didn't go in and break anything up, you would think with him being down ice he would see more of what's going on instead of being near the other ref seeing what he's seeing.
I could see if one player was being double-teames or in trouble when a guys still hitting him but that wasn't the case either

Very strange why Brandon would start Hayes over DeSerres. DeSerres had the bulk of the playoff starts. Bit of a head scratcher.

I don't see Memorial Cup tickets as a hot commodity for scalpers - hasn't been in the 10 years I've been attending, outside of a couple exceptions.

Even Kelowna, which had more season ticket holders than packages available, still had face-value tickets available on gamedays.

I understand that Terry, and I benefited from it myself in Guelph. However he's packaging them early like this to do nothing more than try and line his own pockets by boosting his season ticket base. What annoys me is that the ticket touts will buy the packages currently being offered because they'll make their money off the cup tickets. The regular guy such as myself can't afford to do that because we want to actually watch the games and not sell them. So hope for the lottery or buy marked up tickets from touts.

Season tickets holders always get first dibs on Memorial Cup tickets in any city. I will assume other packages will go on sale later. That's how it has worked in every city that I've covered a tournament in.

In response to: Doyle: Could 2011 be the trial balloon to eliminate Memorial Cup host team?

b-kat [Member]
Mississauga is an anomaly when it comes to being able to sell out the Memorial Cup tournament in a market not considered a CHL hotbed. They have the luxury of being able to draw from a huge population. Although much of the population seems uninterested in junior hockey this event comes with a much higher profile which may grab the attention of the GTA fan base. They also have the benefit of being in a central location to many OHL fans from other markets. Being an hour or less from Kitchener for example can't hurt especially if the Rangers can get in the tournament.
This is not the case in places like the Soo, Sudburry, Bellville. Personally I don't even see cities like Windsor selling out without the Spitfires playing. And those are just Ontario exapmples. It becomes much tougher in the WHL were cities can be hundreds and hundreds of miles from the closest team to them.
Leave it the way it is.

Great news! I've got tickets on my wish list.
This could do wonders for the OHL in the GTA.
