In response to: Doyle: Spitfires score early and often in opener

Very strange why Brandon would start Hayes over DeSerres. DeSerres had the bulk of the playoff starts. Bit of a head scratcher.

I don't see Memorial Cup tickets as a hot commodity for scalpers - hasn't been in the 10 years I've been attending, outside of a couple exceptions.

Even Kelowna, which had more season ticket holders than packages available, still had face-value tickets available on gamedays.

I understand that Terry, and I benefited from it myself in Guelph. However he's packaging them early like this to do nothing more than try and line his own pockets by boosting his season ticket base. What annoys me is that the ticket touts will buy the packages currently being offered because they'll make their money off the cup tickets. The regular guy such as myself can't afford to do that because we want to actually watch the games and not sell them. So hope for the lottery or buy marked up tickets from touts.

Season tickets holders always get first dibs on Memorial Cup tickets in any city. I will assume other packages will go on sale later. That's how it has worked in every city that I've covered a tournament in.

In response to: Doyle: Could 2011 be the trial balloon to eliminate Memorial Cup host team?

Mississauga is an anomaly when it comes to being able to sell out the Memorial Cup tournament in a market not considered a CHL hotbed. They have the luxury of being able to draw from a huge population. Although much of the population seems uninterested in junior hockey this event comes with a much higher profile which may grab the attention of the GTA fan base. They also have the benefit of being in a central location to many OHL fans from other markets. Being an hour or less from Kitchener for example can't hurt especially if the Rangers can get in the tournament.
This is not the case in places like the Soo, Sudburry, Bellville. Personally I don't even see cities like Windsor selling out without the Spitfires playing. And those are just Ontario exapmples. It becomes much tougher in the WHL were cities can be hundreds and hundreds of miles from the closest team to them.
Leave it the way it is.

Great news! I've got tickets on my wish list.
This could do wonders for the OHL in the GTA.

In response to: Sapurji: Cowick says Gaunce's act 'not a masculine thing to do'

Sunaya SAPURJI [Member]
Cowardly or not, Gaunce goaded Cowick and ended up putting the Majors on the power play on which they scored to take a 3-0 lead... how is that dumb? I'm pretty sure Gaunce will take a victory to force a Game 7 over any criticism regarding his character.

Why is it smart to drop the gloves when the linesman get there? If you don't want to go, that's fine, don't go. But, dropping the gloves once the linesman are there is not smart, it's cowardly.

In response to: Doyle: Lambert clears the air over alleged missed handshake

danger girl [Member]
The way Plymouth is set up, Lambert had to walk right by the players. He really must have been preoccupied. If he had claimed that he was leaving the handshake for the players, that would be fine. But that's not what he told the Soo Star. He basically told them he flaked out and forgot, which is hard to believe given the set-up.

Jigsaw,

No they do not lose their package. It is strictly that - a tryout. Something has to be on paper to cover insurance, the rights to the player for the length of the tryout, etc.

If a players signs an amateur tryout contract, do they lose their OHL education package?
