The Belleville Bulls and Kingston Frontenacs met tonight for the first time since their January 27th game that featured a line brawl and resulted in multiple suspensions. But on this night, it was Bulls sophomore Bryan Cameron that stole the show.

It looks like the new Kingston Arena project will continue as planned, despite the recent hiccups. The Kingston Whig-Standard is reporting:

Mayor Harvey Rosen stopped a motion to kill the downtown arena in its tracks, ruling it out of order during a council meeting tonight. The decision means construction will continue on the downtown arena.

Sources had told me heading into the meeting the mayor may block the vote because this council is not allowed to undo any by-laws put in place by the previous council in its first year.

There were plenty of OHL connections to the NHL Trade Deadline Day deals.

The Kitchener Rangers and London Knights had not played each other since November 16th, but that didn't stop the two rivals from playing a heated playoff-like affair. But it was not decided in playoff fashion - the Knights beat the Rangers 4-3 in a shootout.

The situation with the Mississauga IceDogs is somewhat unfortunate when it comes to the players and coaches. They are caught in the middle of the front-office dealings regarding the future of the franchise. Here is the highest scoring team in the Ontario Hockey League, and a club that could make a run for top spot in the Eastern Conference - yet nobody is there to see them play. Sunday was a perfect example as the IceDogs played host to the Saginaw Spirit. It was a great game involving two teams that know how to put the puck in the net. Yet, the attendance was low and there was no TV coverage.

On Saturday night, 60 minutes only decided that the Peterborough Petes and Guelph Storm were guaranteed one point out of their game at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. The five-minute overtime brought the hit of the night with Drew Doughty connecting with Yves Bastien. But it was not until a shootout before the Petes and Storm determined who would come away with two points.

The Saginaw Spirit opened a three game in three nights road trip with authority Friday night - a 7-2 victory over the Guelph Storm. The Spirit were all smiles with the return of Patrick McNeill and Andrew Hotham from injury. But Mitch Maunu is day-to-day with a "lower body injury".

Sarnia Sting Head Coach Dave MacQueen celebrated his 48th birthday Thursday in the place he won his first OHL Championship - Peterborough. It was his Sarnia Sting visiting the Petes. Now, at this point in time of the season, the Peterborough Petes will take a win anyway they can get it. Thursday night as no exception as they held on in the dying moments of the second and third periods to beat the Sarnia Sting 4-3.

This has to be one of the strangest OHL seasons when it comes to looking at some of the Home and Road records of a handful of teams. The league has always been known as one where the home team usually dominates. This is not necessarily the case this year.

Made my first visit to the Steelback Centre recently and while I didn’t get a chance to take the grand tour, it was still a nice experience. When you first arrive, it looks like most new arenas, with Guelph probably being the most similar. The old lighthouse is still intact, which I think is a great touch to link the past and the former Soo Memorial Gardens to the new facility.

Alright, so a lot of people think of All-Star hockey games and say - “Boring!” I always wonder what those people are expecting out of it?

Are they expecting a fight? A big centre ice hit? Rightly or wrongly stay-at-home defencemen are not normally picks for the All-Star Game. It’s all about goals baby! The 2007 OHL All-Star Classic had no shortage of that with the league record being broken with 22 goals being scored Wednesday night at The Dow Event Center. Was it the most exciting hockey game I’ve ever seen? Ummm, no!
