Doyle: Former Lewiston Coach joins Rimouski
As expected, it did not take long for Clement Jodoin to re-surface in the Quebec League. On Monday, he made it known he would not return to the Lewiston Maineiacs as his contract had expired. He has since been introduced as the new head coach of the Rimouski Oceanic.
Doyle: Rotter Returns to Guelph; Lawrence signs with T-Bay
The Guelph Storm have announced that Austrian forward Rafael Rotter will return to the Storm this fall for his overage campaign. Also, the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning have inked Mississauga IceDogs forward Chris Lawrence to a contract.
Doyle: Balsillie quiet during hometown appearance
PETERBOROUGH - The proposed new owner of the NHL's Nashville Predators remained tight-lipped about the deal during what's believed to be one of his first public appearances since the sale was announced earlier this month.
Doyle: Duchene to report to Brampton minicamp
After saying for the past year that he was leaning towards attending Michigan State University, Brampton Battalion fifth overall pick Matt Duchene is taking the first step towards possibly joining the Ontario Hockey League club. Duchene will be in attendance at this weekend's Battalion mini-camp.
Doyle: Mike Futa joins LA Kings
In a move that had been rumoured for months, Mike Futa has stepped down as General Manager of the Owen Sound Attack to accept a position as Co-Director of Amateur Scouting for the Los Angeles Kings.
Futa joined the Attack for the start of the 2002-03 season and hired Mike Stother as head coach. He also helped bring in players like Bobby Ryan, Bobby Sanguinetti and many more.
Doyle: Barr to guide Canadian U-18's
Guelph Storm GM/Head Coach Dave Barr has been named the coach of Canada's Under-18 team for the summer tournament in August. Former London Knights assistant coach Jacques Beaulieu, who is now head coach with Saint John in the Quebec League, will served as one of the assistants.

VANCOUVER, BC - Congratulations to Ontario Hockey League referee Sean Reid, he has been selected to work the championship game of the 2007 Memorial Cup in Vancouver. This is the first Cup for Reid, who will work alongside WHL ref Kyle Rehman.

VANCOUVER, BC - Oshawa's John Tavares won CHL Player of the Year Saturday here in Vancouver, while London's Patrick Kane picked up rookie of the year to go along with top draft prospect and top scorer. Tavares will tell us the negative side of all the progress he's made in his hockey career, while Kane fills us in on a busy schedule right now - and it's not all hockey related.
Doyle: Whalers eliminated from Memorial Cup in blowout
Maybe it just was not meant to be for the Plymouth Whalers. After winning two games in a row against Lewiston, including a 5-1 win in the tiebreaker where the Whalers appeared to look like, well, the Plymouth Whalers - they were hammered 8-1 by Vancouver in the semi-final Friday night.

VANCOUVER, BC - The Plymouth Whalers won Thursday night's tie-breaker at the Memorial Cup by a score of 5-1 over the QMJHL Champion Lewiston Maineiacs. Now, the Whalers will play the host Vancouver Giants in Friday night's semi-final game.

Doyle: Original Spirit Coach in Hospital with Aneurysm
Thoughts and prayers go out to Dennis Desrosiers, the first coach in Saginaw Spirit history. He suffered a brain aneurysm Monday and remains in the intensive care unit of a Saginaw hospital.
Doyle: Sudbury's D'Aversa, Belleville's Pelech sign
Sudbury Wolves defenceman Jonathan D'Aversa was never selected in an NHL Draft, but it did not stop him from signing an NHL contract. The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that they have signed the 21-year-old blueliner to an entry level contract.
Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames have inked 2005 first round pick Matt Pelech. He spent last season in Belleville.

It appears Moe Mantha has decided to take one more shot at the Ontario Hockey League after his failed attempt to bring the Mississauga Ice Dogs to North Bay.

VANCOUVER, BC - The Medicine Hat Tigers have a bye into the Championship Game of the 2007 Memorial Cup Final, thanks to a 1-0 win over the host Vancouver Giants. Matt Keetley stopped all 29 shots he faced to pick up the first shutout of this year's tournament.

VANCOUVER, BC - The Plymouth Whalers and Vancouver Giants worked a little overtime in front of a record crowd for a Memorial Cup round-robin. The fans in attendance got a little extra bang for their buck, as overtime was needed before Kendal McArdle lifted the Giants to a 4-3 victory.

Doyle: Plymouth Whalers - 2007 OHL Champs
The Plymouth did exactly what many expected heading into the 2007 Ontario Hockey League Playoffs, go out there and win the J. Ross Robertson Cup, winning the league title. They completed the feat with a 3-2 overtime victory Sunday night in Sudbury. James Neal was the OT hero, scoring his 13th goal of the playoffs.
Doyle: Junior Summitt Series Planned
The latest twist to the Canada/Russia Hockey rivalry is expected to be played this summer. An 8-game series of Under-20 (World Junior) players will be held from August 27th to September 9th.
Doyle: Whalers win Game 5 despite Dahm
Sudbury goaltender Sebastien Dahm did just about everything he could for his team, except score the winning goal, as the Plymouth Whalers won 4-3 in overtime of Game 5 of the OHL Championship Series. The Whalers now lead 3-2 heading to Sudbury for Game 6 Sunday at 7pm.
Doyle: Former HNIC Producer Passes Away
Former Hockey Night in Canada producer Bob Gordon passed away in the past few days. I never had a chance to meet Mr. Gordon in-person, but I did have a special telephone conversation with him that I will never forget.

SUDBURY, ON - Plymouth goaltender Michal Neuvirth settled down after a shaky start, and the Whalers capitalized on their chances near the net to earn a 3-1 victory in Sudbury Wednesday night, evening the OHL Championship series at two games apiece.
Doyle: Wolves win another OT affair
The Sudbury Wolves took the lead in the OHL Championship Series with a 5-4 Overtime victory over the Plymouth Whalers Tuesday night. The Whalers trail a series for the first time in this playoffs.

As first reported here on loosepucks.com Tuesday night, the 2008 Memorial Cup is headed to Kitchener. It will be interesting to see what they have in-store for the event. The word coming out of the bidding process is that the Rangers has some unique ideas for the 2008 event.

Doyle: OHL Final even heading north
The Sudbury Wolves have taught just about everyone a lesson over the course of this 2007 OHL Playoffs - never count them out. For those who did not believe, they wrote another chapter in their Cinderella Story Sunday at Plymouth.
Doyle: Erie selects O'Reilly first overall
The Erie Otters have confirmed what many had expected all along, they will make Toronto Jr. Canadiens forward Ryan O'Reilly the first overall pick in Saturday's OHL Priority Selection.
Doyle: London's Jordan Shine gets 20 games
The OHL has thrown the book at London Knights forward Jordan Shine after his slash in the opening game of this year's Western Conference final. Shine was slapped with a match penalty on the play for intent to injure, and the final verdict - a 20 game suspension.
With the four already served, it means Shine will sit the first 16 games of the 2007-08 season.
TV coverage for OHL Final
It appears a deal has been reached that will see the entire OHL Championship Series televised. While the full details are a little sketchy right now, the games will be on the OHL Action Pak, and we would assume many of the local Rogers and Cogeco stations. Schoolcraft College in Plymouth will continue to handle the games at Compuware Sports Arena while it's believed a Rogers Television crew will head to Sudbury.
Game 2 of the series on Sunday will be broadcast on Rogers Sportsnet.

Tavares wins Red Tilson Award
Oshawa Generals sniper John Tavares has been named the 2007 winner of the Red Tilson Award as the OHL's Most Outstanding Player. The Oakville-native picked up 72 goals and 134 points in his second season in the league. He entered the OHL as a 15-year-old after being drafted exceptional player status.
Doyle: Sestito Suspended For Game 1 of Final
Plymouth Whalers forward Tom Sestito has been suspended for the opening game of the 2007 OHL Championship Series. This comes after being ejected in Game 5 of the Western Final against London. The Columbus draft pick was handed a 5-minute major and game misconduct for boarding on London's Patrick Kane.
