Forward Jordan Owens, who played last year as an overager for Mississauga, has signed his first professional contract. He has inked a deal with the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack. The Wolfpack are owned by the parent company of the New York Rangers, and serve as the top affiliate for the Rangers.

Bill Huard was no stranger to the penalty box during his hockey career. Whether it was in the OHL in Peterborough, the AHL or the NHL with Boston, Edmonton, Quebec, Dallas or Los Angeles, he knew his role. Now, he is questioning the current state of the NHL, suggesting a rule change that could bring back tough hockey, while cutting down on cheap shots.

Recently, we told you that the Guelph Storm had announced that Rafael Rotter would be returning to the team for an overage season. It appears as though one of the main reasons for his return, rather than turning pro, is because of the ankle injury that has hampered him since training camp last season.

After winning two gold medals with Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships, Brent Sutter is going to return to the Canadian bench. He'll be the bench boss for Canada for the upcoming Canada/Russia Super Series to be held later this summer. Sutter will be joined by Kitchener Rangers GM/Coach Peter DeBoer as an assistant coach. Gatineau's Benoit Groulx will also be an assistant.

It's officially the end of an era in Belleville - Dr. Robert Vaughan is selling his remaining interest in the Bulls to the group lead by current majority owner Gord Simmonds. Vaughan was the driving force behind bringing the Bulls to the Friendly City.

The Washington Capitals have inked Plymouth Whalers goaltender Michal Neuvirth to an entry level contract. The Toronto Maple Leafs have done the same with Phil Oreskovic, who split last season with Brampton and Owen Sound. The Atlanta Thrashers now have the name of Sarnia's Tomas Pospisil on a contract as well.
