Doyle: iPhone? iDon't Get it!
Time for a quick rant away from hockey. What's the big deal about the iPhone? I don't understand it.
Doyle: Attack set to make announcement
The Owen Sound Attack have scheduled a press conference for Wednesday at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
While it was not part of the team announcement, you have to presume it will be to announce a new General Manager. We'll keep you posted on any information we hear on this throughout the weekend.

Doyle: IceDogs get ice for a toonie
The Niagara IceDogs have worked out their lease with the City of St. Catharines for Jack Gatecliff Arena. As part of the deal, the team will be paying very little for ice rental.

In a move we first reported last week, the Saginaw Spirit have lost one of their assistant coaches as he's officially been named a head coach in the minors. Meanwhile, the Guelph Storm have announced the hiring of two assistant coaches.

On this Father's Day I figured I'd bring you this. I stumbled across a nice little story about three men from the Buffalo area who played together or against each other growing up. All three now have sons who could soon be headed to the NHL - including London Knights sniper Patrick Kane.

While the Saginaw Spirit are currently looking to lock up their new general manager after Coach/GM Bob Mancini did not have his contract renewed, Mancini's associate coach could be headed elsewhere.
Doyle: OHL PIM King turns to coaching
Ryan Barnes holds the OHL single season record for most penalty minutes in a season with 399 in 1998-99, split between Sudbury, Toronto and Barrie. Now, the 27-year-old has hung up his skates and become a member of the coaching ranks.

The roster for Canada's Under-18 Summer Team's Selection Camp has been announced. 40 players will compete for a spot on Team Canada, which will play at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament (formerly Junior World Cup).

The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds can add their name to the list of OHL teams that now have a waiting list for season tickets.
Doyle: Corrente signs with New Jersey
Niagara IceDogs defenceman Matt Corrente was as surprised as anyone to be a first round pick of the New Jersey Devils. Now, he's signed an entry level contract with the NHL club.
Doyle: IceDogs captain signs AHL contract
Forward Jordan Owens, who played last year as an overager for Mississauga, has signed his first professional contract. He has inked a deal with the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack. The Wolfpack are owned by the parent company of the New York Rangers, and serve as the top affiliate for the Rangers.
Doyle: Former OHL/NHL scrapper wants change
Bill Huard was no stranger to the penalty box during his hockey career. Whether it was in the OHL in Peterborough, the AHL or the NHL with Boston, Edmonton, Quebec, Dallas or Los Angeles, he knew his role. Now, he is questioning the current state of the NHL, suggesting a rule change that could bring back tough hockey, while cutting down on cheap shots.
Rafael Rotter update
Recently, we told you that the Guelph Storm had announced that Rafael Rotter would be returning to the team for an overage season. It appears as though one of the main reasons for his return, rather than turning pro, is because of the ankle injury that has hampered him since training camp last season.

When the Niagara IceDogs hit the ice in September, there will be a familiar face behind the bench, but for the first time, he will be the man in-charge.

This will be the shortest off-season in a long time for the Sudbury Wolves. The OHL Eastern Conference Champions may also have to come to grips with the reality of a large number of players graduating.

The Niagara IceDogs are officially open for business. While their website appears to be lagging behind, they have an office, equipment at their rink, and a season ticket drive underway.
Doyle: Only NHLer among '96 Champion Petes wins Stanley Cup
The Peterborough Petes won the 1996 OHL Championship, and hosted the Memorial Cup where they lost in the final to the Granby Prédateurs. Now, the only member of that team who is currently playing in the NHL has hoisted the Stanley Cup.
Doyle: Sanguinetti to Brampton deal done
As was expected way back in January, Bobby Sanguinetti is now a member of the Brampton Battalion. It was long discussed among OHL insiders that Sanguinetti would become part of the Battalion ranks in return for many of the picks that went to Brampton at the trade deadline.

Doyle: Brent Sutter returns to Canada bench
After winning two gold medals with Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships, Brent Sutter is going to return to the Canadian bench. He'll be the bench boss for Canada for the upcoming Canada/Russia Super Series to be held later this summer. Sutter will be joined by Kitchener Rangers GM/Coach Peter DeBoer as an assistant coach. Gatineau's Benoit Groulx will also be an assistant.
Doyle: Doc Vaughan sells remaining shares of Bulls
It's officially the end of an era in Belleville - Dr. Robert Vaughan is selling his remaining interest in the Bulls to the group lead by current majority owner Gord Simmonds. Vaughan was the driving force behind bringing the Bulls to the Friendly City.
Doyle: Thunder Bay hockey factory in jeopardy
It has been an annual tradition for many years "(insert OHL team here) selects, from the Thunder Bay Kings...." The Kings minor midget (and major bantam before the age levels were changed) teams have turned out many who have gone on to star in the OHL. But that may soon change.
Doyle: Neuvirth, Pospisil & Oreskovic signed
The Washington Capitals have inked Plymouth Whalers goaltender Michal Neuvirth to an entry level contract. The Toronto Maple Leafs have done the same with Phil Oreskovic, who split last season with Brampton and Owen Sound. The Atlanta Thrashers now have the name of Sarnia's Tomas Pospisil on a contract as well.

Doyle: Let the OHL Trades Begin
With this being June 1, it means the trade window in the Ontario Hockey League has re-opened, and there is expected to be a flurry of deals. Expect multiple moves to come out of Sudbury in the next little while, with at least three players heading elsewhere.
