Doyle: Trent Cull takes over the Sudbury Wolves

The Sudbury Wolves will have a new face behind the bench in the fall.

The Wolves have announced the hiring of Trent Cull as the team's new head coach. He replaces Mike Foligno, who stepped down as GM/Head Coach following the 2009-10 season. Cull spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach with the AHL Syracuse Crunch. The Crunch did not renew any of the coaching staff as the team is changing affiliations from Syracuse to Anaheim for next season.

Cull, 36, is an OHL graduate, playing in Owen Sound, Windsor and Kingston from 1989 thru 1994. He served as an assistant coach for the Guelph Storm for two seasons, under Dave Barr, before heading to Syracuse.

“Trent Cull is an excellent coach and I fully endorse him as a Head Coach of the Sudbury Wolves” said Barr in a Wolves press release. “He is a take charge guy, very creative with great ideas and passion for the game. Trent is one of the good young up-and-coming coaches that is well-versed in the ‘new’ style of game. He is a proven winner, he is personable, yet no-nonsense, and he is highly respected both by his players and his peers.”

The club also officially named Blaine Smith the team's General Manager, adding it to his existing role of President.
