Sapurji: GM Centre Liens Forward
There are a couple interesting stories related to the Oshawa Generals and their new home, the General Motors Centre.
The first is in regards to the actual construction of the building as Oshawa This Week is reporting that roughly $1.1 million worth of liens have been filed on the arena by contractors who are still waiting to be paid by the Generals for their completed work.
Sapurji: Canadiens sign Kostitsyn
The Montreal Canadiens have signed London Knights forward Sergei Kostitsyn to a three-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Kostitsyn, 20, finished third in OHL scoring behind teammate Pat Kane and Oshawa's John Tavares with 40 goals and 91 assists for 131 points in 59 games. His 91 assists were tops in in the Canadian Hockey League.
Montreal selected the native of Novopolotsk, Belarus in the seventh round (200th overall) in the 2005 NHL draft.
Kostitsyn's older brother Andrei is also with the Canadiens, having scored 52 points in 50 games for their AHL affiliate Hamilton Bulldogs and 11 points in 22 NHL games with Montreal.
Sapurji: Brennan and Riiiiico...
I can't believe it took more than 24 hours for someone to post the Kip Brennan altercation with a fan on YouTube. People are obviously slacking.
Sapurji: Calder Cup & Barney Chat
Thought I’d throw a quick blog entry together before my shift starts at work this beautiful Friday evening. Since Terry is doing such a fantastic job covering the Memorial Cup, I figured I’d take a look at the road to the AHL’s Calder Cup. It was either that or blog about how evil the gas companies are.
Sapurji: Marni Lind -- Hockey Mom of the Year
Give it up for the Hockey Mom of the Year: Marni Lind.
Lind, who is a single mother with five kids, will be honoured with the title during the Memorial Cup on Friday.
Sapurji: Mountain Memories
I thought I’d contribute some musings since: a) I’m back from vacation today and b) Terry is busy with the Mem Cup in VanCity.
I’ve spent the last 10 days in beautiful Mountain Top, Pennsylvania - though it seems like most of my trip was spent in my car.
Sapurji: Mem Cup heads to Kitchener
The Ontario Hockey League has called a press conference for tomorrow at noon to announce the host for the 2008 Memorial Cup and the press conference is taking place at City Hall in beautiful ... Kitchener, Ontario.
Sapurji: Nine months in Robinson case
Curtis Mullen, the man responsible for the car accident that left Moose Jaw Warriors forward Garrett Robinson in a coma, has been sentenced to nine months in jail.
Sapurji: Cameron comes back
The new coach of the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors looks rather familiar. And he should, since Dave Cameron’s first year behind the Majors bench was also my first full year covering the OHL for the Star.
