Sapurji: Leafs sign Gamache
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that they have signed speedy forward Simon Gamache to a 2-year-deal.
Gamache, 26, played for Bern in the Swiss Elite League last year neting 66 points (20 goals, 46 assists) in 44 games -- good enough for the league scoring title.
Sapurji: Leafs Trade For Toskala
The Toronto Maple Leafs have given up a first-round draft pick, a second-round pick in 2008 and a fourth-round pick in 2009 to the San Jose Sharks for goaltender Vesa Toskala and former Ottawa 67's forward Mark Bell.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced the signing of defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo to a three-year contract extension worth $3.85 million (U.S.) today.

Whitfield County, Georgia -- It's vacation time at my home away from home, on the border between Georgia and Tennessee. The weather here has been stifling. The Tennessee Valley area has been suffering through a drought for more than a month now and they've started closing down a few of the fountains around town.

Here's a crazy story in today's Toronto Star about ex-NHLer Ryan VandenBussche, who is currently on trial for eight charges -- three of which are for assaulting police during a full-scale bar brawl which according to reports included roughly 30 people.
Sapurji: Mississauga-St. Michael's Majors
The OHL rubberstamped the deal allowing the sale of the Mississauga IceDogs to Newmarket businessman Bill Burke today, meaning the Toronto St. Michael's Majors can now move into the Hershey Centre.
