Sapurji: Climb with Chara for Charity...
I seriously thought about bidding on this adventure because, really, who better to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with than Boston Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara.
Sapurji: Oh. My. God.
The Memorial Cup was presented to Spokane Chiefs captain Chris Bruton by CHL president David Branch. Bruton hoisted it... for about 30 seconds before the top of the trophy broke off and the base went crashing to the ice as he was trying to give it to teammate Trevor Glass.
Sapurji: Mem Cup Running, Kadri's last stand?
Congratulations to the 2008 Memorial Cup champion, Spokane Chiefs.
The Chiefs clinched the title with a 4-1 win over the host Kitchener Rangers.
Sapurji: OHL announces all-star teams
Six members of the OHL champion Kitchener Rangers were named to the OHL all-star teams, including First Team forwards Justin Azevedo and Matt Halischuk. Four members of the Belleville Bulls were selected including Mike Murphy, the First Team goaltender.
Sapurji: Matthias butts in for Bulls
KITCHENER -- Belleville Bulls forward Shawn Matthias has scored some beautiful, highlight reel goals over the course of OHL career. He's sniped a pair of nice ones in the NHL too.
Sapurji: A lance!
KITCHENER -- Once again I'm here at centre ice at the Aud, sitting in front of the Gatineau Olympiques broadcasters.
Sapurji: Putting 'pressure' in perspective...
KITCHENER -- Pick up any newspaper, listen to sports radio or watch TV and you'll always hear people -- whether reporters, players or coaches -- talk about the pressures of the game.
Sapurji: Bulls 'too fancy' for Matthias
KITCHENER -- After losing two months of hockey to mononucleosis, Belleville forward Shawn Matthias is slowly finding his form. But the 19-year-old is running out of time after his Bulls dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Spokane Chiefs in Game 2 of the Memorial Cup last night.
Sapurji: Memorial Cup Game 2
KITCHENER -- The OHL representatives the Belleville Bulls faceoff against the Western Hockey League champion Spokane Chiefs this afternoon at the Aud.
Sapurji: Justin Time for Kitchener
When it comes to big goals, Kitchener Rangers forward Justin Azevedo has scored a few. He came through with another clutch tally last night, scoring the game winner as the Rangers defeated the Gatineau Olympiques 6-5 last night in overtime.
Sapurji: Around the rink.... Running
KITCHENER -- Here in the press box at the Memorial Auditorium. One of my favourite things about the Memorial Cup is that you are sure to bump into people you haven't seen in a long time or likely only see once a year.
Sapurji: Food for thought...
KITCHENER -- It's impressive to see how the local businesses have taken to the Memorial Cup here in Kitchener.
Sapurji: Where's the prize?!?!
Congratulations to the Kitchener Rangers on winning the OHL championship. Good luck to both the Rangers and the OHL rep. Belleville Bulls at the Memorial Cup, which starts tomorrow.
Sapurji: DeBoer interested in Leafs job....
Now that Paul Maurice has been gassed by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the talk has turned to a possible successor. With no shortage of candidates, Kitchener Rangers head coach/GM Peter DeBoer is also throwing his name into the ring.
Sapurji: Selwood fired, Gens in limbo?
Looks like a few OHL clubs took on some front office spring cleaning with the Oshawa Generals relieving Brad Selwood of his duties as general manager. Selwood joins Peterborough head coach Vince Malette and assistant Darren Keily, who were also let go today.
Sapurji: Interesting times in Oshawa
There have been some interesting stories out of Oshawa recently. First up, Generals phenom John Tavares has fired his agent Bryan Deasley and has hired -- if you can call it that -- his mom, Barbara.
Sapurji: They call him the streak... fo real
Nathan Smith, captain of the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will stand trial after he was arrested on April 27 for running down a city street buck naked.
Sapurji: OHL's burning issue
After more than a decade of watching and covering junior hockey, I’d thought I’d heard it all -- or at least a good chunk of it:
Sapurji: Mitchell signs with Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Oshawa Generals forward Dale Mitchell to a three-year contract. Mitchell was taken by the Leafs in third-round (74th overall) in the 2007 NHL draft.
