Sapurji: Train-ing day for Top Prospects
SOMEWHERE EN ROUTE TO WINDSOR -- I'm on a Via train right now on my way to Windsor for the CHL Top Prospects game. It's actually my first time taking the train and so far so good.
...Super bored though, so feel free to drop me a line at [email protected]
The idea for taking the train came last week when the CHL was kind enough to send me an email informing my boss at the Star that myself and hockey columnist Damien Cox had been gifted free first-class Via Rail tickets and free nights at the media hotel in Windsor because of the Star's great coverage of the CHL. Seriously.
And while the gesture was very kind, we had to decline. It's always harder to be objective about something when it's free. Plus, I'm just a lowly OHL reporter, it wouldn't be right. Though, that didn't stop some of our big-time media colleagues who are in the first-class car as this is being typed -- probably sipping on champagne and eating the finest muffins the CHL could provide.
Anyway, my economy ticket was roughly the same as two tanks of gas in a guzzler, so I figured I'd take a relaxing trip despite the 7:50 a.m. departure time. The wi-fi on the train is pretty shady, but it’s better than texting while driving... not that anyone would ever do that, it’s illegal.
CHANGE OF HEART: The OHL has decided to rescind their decision on the suspensions for Soo Greyhound forwards Jordan Nolan and Carson Dubchak as well as Windsor’s Taylor Hall, after further review. Nolan was to sit for at least two games as the result of instigating a fight with Windsor’s Dale Mitchell - in which the Leafs prospect was injured. But video showed that Mitchell’s gloves were off first.
"From the get-go, we disputed some of those calls," Greyhounds GM Dave Torrie told the Sault Star. "Particularly in the Nolan case, it was obvious to us on the video that he was not the instigator. It's clear there were a lot of things going on and the wrong call was made."
Dubchak and Hall were to be suspended for being the second fight on the same stoppage, but that was also overturned when it was shown that their bout started at the same time Soo defenceman Brock Beukeboom was figinting Windsor centre Adam Henrique.
JUDGEMENT DAY: Newly acquired Windsor forward Zack Kassian is expected to meet with OHL commissioner Dave Branch today regarding his hit on Matt Kennedy of the Barrie Colts. Branch isn't expected to announce his decision until after the Top Prospects game on Wednesday.
HE’S HOT KARL: I'm not really a big follower of Twitter -- outside of Loosepucks, obviously -- but recently I've become addicted to the feed of fashion guru Karl Lagerfeld. Check out some of these gems:
What I like in Monte Carlo is that I feel liked, I feel wanted, but I can walk on the street with nobody grabbing.
That's so weird, I feel the same way about walking in Owen Sound.
Forgiveness is too easy. I can forget by indifference, but not forgive. I prefer revenge.
Nothing scares me more than people with some doll collection. As a child, I never played with anything like toys. I wanted to be a grown-up.
My dream? Transparent fur. The hair on plastic and not on leather. We’ve tried, but nobody has found it yet.
Um. OK. You totally lost me there Karl. Check out Karl’s twitter at http://twitter.com/Karl_Lagerfeld
